Terms and Conditions of Sale
Please read and become familiar with our “Terms and Conditions of Sale” policies. By placing an order for any item from Fortunes of War Militaria, you agree to abide by the following conditions and terms:
Items are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Remember that most of our items are textiles over 70 years old and are subject to aging, wrinkling and shrinkage. Unless otherwise stated, all items are guaranteed authentic. We go out of our way to accurately describe each item, including any major flaws. Please study the photographic images carefully; they are there to help guide you. Please email us before purchasing, so that we may discuss any questions that you might have prior to your order. All sizes may not be exact but are a close approximation. Fabric will not be stretched in order to get an “exact” measurement. Flags, stitch belts, etc. may not be returned because the measurements were not exact.
Orders will only be accepted on your email confirmation. Do not send us funds before we have confirmed that the item is available. First, send us an email and ask whether the item you want to purchase is available. We will contact you and let you know if it is still in stock or not. If you wish to purchase, let us know and we will then confirm your mailing address, whether you want added insurance, etc. Once we have responded to you that the item is available you will have 7 days to submit payment. If payment has not been received within 7 days, the item will be returned to the web site. Please, if you intend to purchase an item, do not forget to pay for it once we have confirmed its availability along with your shipping information.
All prices are firm. We do not accept trades nor do we lay away items. Currently we accept payment in the form of a Cashier’s Check drawn on your U.S. bank, Personal Check, U.S.P.S. Money Order, International Money Order and MoneyGram. We no longer accept PayPal as payment. We do not accept checks drawn on foreign banks. All forms of payment must clear our bank before your item will be mailed; this normally takes about 2-3 days. Once your payment has been credited, items are normally shipped within 48 hours.

California state residents must add an additional 7.25% for state and county sales tax to the sale price of your item, unless a hard copy of your current resale certificate is provided to us.
Shipping information will be gathered from you at the time your order is confirmed. When shipping domestic, we charge you the U.S.P.S. shipping/insurance fees only, with no added packing, handling or supply charges. Shipping charges and insurance are in addition to the price of your purchase and are the buyer’s responsibility.
Most items are sent via U.S.P.S. Priority Mail, although at times we may choose to ship via FedEx.
We use U.S.P.S. because we like the ability to insure and to track items shipped through them. Many web dealers, including Fortunes Of War Militaria offer this shipping service almost exclusively because it is so dependable.
Insurance to cover the full value of your purchase is highly recommended on ALL purchases for both domestic as well as international purchases. Make note that U.S.P.S. Priority Mail provides for the first $50.00 of insurance on your item’s value included, as well as provides tracking to your address. It is your responsibility to buy additional insurance in order to cover the full value of your purchase. Please note that Priority Mail Tracking is not insurance; insurance for the full value is normally extra! Please inform us at the time of your order whether you would like to purchase additional insurance. If the buyer does not choose to insure their item for its full value, then they must accept all of the risks due to loss or damage. Fortunes of War Militaria is not responsible for items lost or damaged in the mail.
All items shipped to international destinations will be sent via U.S.P.S. Registered Mail. Insurance is the buyer’s responsibility and is highly recommended. All Customs and import duties are the responsibility of the buyer. Please be sure to contact your country’s local Customs officials for details. It is the buyer’s responsibility to check with Customs in order to be sure that the items you wish to purchase can be imported into that country. You agree to hold Fortunes of War Militaria harmless for any direct, indirect, punitive or consequential damages that might arise from improper international shipping practices. Sorry, we will not misrepresent the value or purchase price on Custom’s Forms, so please do not ask.
The buyer is given a 3 day inspection period on all items purchased. If you have any issues with regard to your item’s condition or there is an actual gross difference in our description vs. what you have received, please email us so that we may discuss first. The buyer MUST contact me before returning any item; I will not accept a returned item unless it has been discussed beforehand. Additionally, please note: small moth holes in the material (“I counted 20 holes and you said that there were 15!”), various stains acquired in the field, loose threads, small differences in size, etc. are not grounds for return. Items may be returned for a full refund, minus the cost of shipping and insurance. Those are the responsibility of the buyer. This excludes damage to the item caused by the U.S.P.S. during shipping/handling. (This is another reason to purchase insurance!) If an article has been damaged in transit, it is your responsibility to follow up and to make a claim with the Postal Service.

When you request pricing, please consider that we may not be able to offer you what you saw one sell for on eBay or what someone told you it must be worth. Here is why: As you think about our proposal, remember that after we have acquired your items for re-sale, we have first authenticated it and then must translate, photograph, describe/write up and then take the time to enter all of this information onto our site. Knowing this, we strive to make our proposition fair to all parties.
