Imperial Japanese Good Luck Signed Flag-00135
This is a silk, battle worn Imperial Japanese Good Luck Signed Flag. It measures approximately 29.” high X 40.” long. The red sun is nicely silk screened on the age darkened, cream white back ground. The gold painted corner tabs are sewn in place, but neither has its original tie strings. The fly and hoist side edges are hem stitched for added strength; this particular flag has its hoist on the left-hand side.
The large bold vertical line of kanji characters on the left-hand side say “Praying That the Imperial Army Will Win!” The flag contains many different signatures including someone by the last name of “Tago”.
This flag does show a couple of small holes and a tear of the material near the upper left-hand corner. There are also quite a few stains that appear to be blood, primarily in the 12-2 and 6 o’clock positions (see images).
