Off To War Banner-0020
This beautiful silk Off-To-War Banner is made from a heavy, high quality silk material and measures approximately 26.25″ wide X 138.25″ long. The bold artwork across the top of the nobori has been silk screened with heavy coats of paint and is quite elaborate. The Golden Kite decoration in the top-center (the Golden Kite award was presented by the Japanese for valor), was painted in shades of gold, blue, green, white and red. The gold accents have been further detailed by a dusting of glitter that sparkles nicely when the light catches it. This image has then been surrounded by a green and red laurel wreath and that is further outlined by numerous red sun rays, projecting out from the center toward the banner’s edges. Immediately below that, is a horizontal dark blue “squiggle” pattern and then the red character for “soldier going off to war”. The black vertical rows of kanji say, “Presented to: Hayashi Shotaro– Presented by: Shikata Senkichi“. There are scattered insect bites, primarily near the lower aspect of the banner. This nobori is in overall very good-excellent condition and is a real “looker”. It would display well in anyone’s collection!
