Off To War Banner 0041
The following banner reads “Oonakajima-township association”. Oonakajima used to be a town in Shizuoka prefecture. This particular banner may have been used for a variety of reasons, but was probably displayed during a send-off ceremony to identify its native son(s) being called into service. It was found wrapped up with another more decorative off to war banner.
The nobori (which means “banner”), comes mounted on its black painted pole with gold suspension cord and gold tassels. The kanji characters are painted in a deep, dark blue paint. Approximate measurements are 12.75″ wide X 40.” long.
