1000 Stitch Belt-0063 "SOLD"
This beautiful white silk and red cotton knotted Tiger Senninbari Belt measures approximately 6.50″ high X 39.25″ long, not including tie strings. This nicely made good luck amulet is comprised of a large leaping tiger, made completely from red cotton threaded knots. Near the tiger’s rear paws is a large red kanji character that goes along with an additional grouping of 4 red kanji characters located near the animal’s front paws. Together, the characters read, Ki Buun Chokyu or “I Pray Your Military Fortunes Are Long Lasting”. The center of the tiger belt has a small opening or pouch that could be used to hold personal items such as additional good luck paper charms or ofuda, photographs or sometimes money.
On the left front side of the senninbari are 3 rows of nicely styled black kanji characters, along with a small red seal that measures approximately 0.75″ square. The right-hand side of the belt has a long, horizontal row of additional characters that give the name of the senninbari’s owner. Together, the characters say, “Presented to Watanabe Yuichiro. Presented from everyone in the Town Association, Women’s Group of Nakamachi, Shiraisi-cho.” This town is located in Saga Prefecture, in the northwest part of the island of Kyushu.
These beautiful senninbari with knotted tigers are quite attractive. They are very reasonable in price compared to their tiger good luck flag “cousins” and are sure to soon become one of the next “it” items of Japanese militaria.
