Sake Cup-0002 “58th Infantry”

This lovely Japanese sake cup measures just a little over 2.5 inches across. There are no chips or cracks in the porcelain. The rim is painted in gold leaf that is slightly worn. The center of the cup has a beautiful tasseled Japanese battle flag on its staff.  A large hand painted, pink cherry blossom branch with open petals outlines the flag on the left.  Along the right side, cherry blossom flower buds are present. Hand painted, gold leaf kanji characters outline the inner rim from the 9 to the 3 o’clock position.  The characters on the right-hand side say, “58th Infantry”.   The cup is named on the bottom.  An attractive example.
